Can you play Diablo 3 without having played the previous editions?

Diablo 3 is the continuation of the legend of Sanctuary and its destruction by the Armies from Hell. Yes, it follows the continuity of the previous two editions in the Diablo series. However, Diablo 3 is not dependent upon the storylines of the previous two editions.

The legacy of the Diablo storyline is still the basic framework. Gamers who are just picking up Diablo 3 would be impressed enough to go back and try the previous two Diablo editions. However, lack of knowledge about what happened in the past is not necessary as it is told before Diablo 3 begins.

The world was destroyed 20 years back. The heroes who had saved Sanctuary the last time either went mad or died. Some heroes even suffered total memory loss. The point is Evil surfaces in every Time. And, every time new heroes have to take on the challenge. The good and evil powers are different but the basic fundamentals of good and evil remain the same through all ages.

Of course, the territorial configuration of Diablo 3 is different from that of before. New characters have come in too. For example, Leah – Deckard Cain's niece – would go along with the hero on some sub quests. In fact, the cinematic trailer of Diablo 3 has been narrated by Leah herself. She starts off by saying: It has been said that in the end of all things, we would find a new beginning. But as the shadow once again crawls across our world and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind, people pray for strength and guidance. They should pray for the mercy of a swift death... for I've seen what the Darkness hides. There are new character classes, new items, new twists and turns that make Diablo 3 enchanting for the old Diablo fan but these impress the new gamer as well.

The difficulty level of Diablo 3 has increased so much that gamers who mastered certain tricks in the previous editions would have to take a fresh look at Diablo 3. Old strategies won't really work in Diablo 3.

Years of study, research, and development have gone into Diablo 3. Those who haven't tried Diablo 3 before would wonder why they missed the previous editions. Those who are Diablo fans cannot wait to get to dominator status!
